This was important to avoid any untoward incidents or fatal accidents.
Johor TNB general manager for distribution, Datuk Aminuddin Mohd Amin, said any mistake during electrical wiring work could lead to death by electrocution.
He said TNB conducted awareness campaigns for consumers in matters of wiring following past cases of fatal electrocutions.
"Awareness campaigns on the dangers of faulty wiring needs to be continued.
"Domestic consumers, especially home owners, are those who do the most wiring without following TNB specifications.
"Failure to follow specifications could lead to electrocution and death," said Aminuddin during a buka puasa and Electrical Safety campaign at the Kedai Tenaga TNB in Batu Pahat recently.
Also present were Semerah state assemblyman Datuk Ariss Samsudin, Senggarang state assemblyman Jaafar Hashim and Batu Pahat area TNB manager Kharizam Ibrahim.
Aminuddin said in anticipation of many imperfect wiring work at homes during the festive season, TNB would be raising awareness by distributing flyers on safety tips.
He urged home owners to be careful in doing wiring and to hire qualified electricians.
During the same function, TNB donated RM500 to the Al-Mustakin mosque in Kampung Sungai Lurus in Senggarang, Surau Haji Zubir Rengit and Pusat Pemulihan Komuniti in Semerah.
On the surau and mosque contributions, Aminuddin said it was part of the utility's corporate and social responsibility, which included repairing and building facilities for the needy.
"We also contribute to specific mosques and surau to enable them to conduct activities," he said.
